Description

A pair of cottages dated to the 17th century, located on High Street in Culworth. They are constructed from coursed limestone rubble, with decorative bands of ironstone, and have a roof of artificial stone slates, topped with brick stacks.

The cottage to the right, known as Fairway Cottage, is two bays wide. It has a central doorway with a wooden lintel, a four-panel part-glazed door, and a timber lattice-work porch. There are three-light casement windows with wooden lintels on either side of the door. Similar windows are found on the first floor. The cottage to the left, Dial House, is four bays wide, with a plank door, side-lights and a wooden lintel on the right bay. A three-light casement window with wooden lintel sits to the left of the doorway. A 20th-century bay window occupies the second bay from the left, and a three-light casement window with wooden lintel is located in the left bay. The first floor has three-light casement windows with wooden lintels in the right bay and second bay from the right. Smaller two-light windows are present in the left bay and second bay from the right along the first floor. The left gable has a coping, with kneelers. A blocked two-light stone mullioned window is located at first floor and attic level on the left side of the building. The interior has not been inspected.
