Description
Bridges Nos. 93 and 94 are a triple bridge built around 1830, located at the junction of the Grand Union Canal in Braunston. The central bridge is made of brick and sits on a triangular island, connecting to cast iron bridges on either side that cross the canal. These iron bridges feature moulded elliptical arches and iron trellis parapets, with the arches stamped on both sides with "Horseley Ironworks" and displaying iron plaques numbered 93 and 94. The brick flanking walls curve down to the towpath on both sides. The design of the cast iron bridges is similar to another bridge at Braunston Wharf. Historically, the Oxford Canal used to join the Grand Union Canal at Braunston Wharf, but between 1829 and 1834, it was shortened and straightened, leading to the formation of the current junction.
