Description
The Oxford Canal Aqueduct Number 96 is an aqueduct built around 1830. It is constructed from random blue and red brick and features three parabolic arches with blue brick surrounds, separated by brick buttresses. The parapet has blue brick coping and a blue brick string course at the base. An iron plaque inscribed with '96' is located over the central arch. The flanking walls extend forward on either side and are made of blue and red brick, with some areas rendered. This aqueduct carries the Oxford Canal across the River Leam. This section of the canal was built between 1829 and 1834 as part of a project to shorten and straighten the canal, which previously connected to the Grand Union Canal at Braunston Wharf.
