12/44 Group of 7 chest tombs to E of chancel of Church of St. Mary

GV II

Chest tombs. C17-C19. Two to north-east of chancel near corner of churchyard, of limestone, are of 'table' type with ledger supported by ornamental volute legs; one tomb dated 1696. Another to north-west of chancel, of ironstone and similar type, probably late C17, with plain supports. Chest tomb furthest east of chancel C18 of limestone with panelled chest. That just east of chancel, late C18 of ironstone with chamfered plinth and plain sides, to members of Hill family. Another to south of the latter, C18 of limestone with balustered corners. That dated 1875 is not of special architectural interest.
