Description

The Boxes is a farmhouse dated 1693, which was remodeled in the early to mid-19th century. It is constructed of coursed squared limestone, partly banded with ironstone, and has a rendered finish. The roof is hipped and covered with slate, and there are rendered brick lateral stacks. The building features a central-staircase plan and is three stories tall with a three-window range. The central entrance consists of a six-panel double-leaf door with an overlight, all set within a moulded rendered surround. The ground and first floors have 12-pane sash windows, while the attic floor has 9-pane sashes, all with moulded rendered surrounds. There are sill bands and deep bracketed eaves. A datestone inscribed I/RM/1693 is re-set in the blank central first-floor rear window. The interior has not been inspected.
