Description

Myrtle Cottage, formerly known as Rose Cottage, is an early 18th-century cottage located on the east side of Sulgrave Road, Culworth. The building is constructed of coursed squared ironstone with a slate roof and flanking brick stacks. It is two storeys and an attic, with eight bays. The central doorway features a half-glazed, three-panel door, a wooden lintel that extends over sash windows with side lights to the left. More recent 20th-century wood casement windows are located to the right, also with an old wooden lintel. First-floor windows are sash windows with side lights and stop-chamfered wood lintels. The gable ends are coped and feature kneelers. A 19th-century extension to the left bears a datestone inscribed “G.L. 1840”. The interior, which has not been inspected, is noted to have an open fireplace with a bread oven and chamfered spine beams with run-out stops.
