Description

Newnham Hall is a country house built in the early 19th century. It features a double-depth plan, constructed of stuccoed brick with a hipped slate roof and various rendered brick internal stacks. The building stands two storeys high and has a five-window range.

The entrance front includes a part-glazed door set within a central flat-roofed porch, supported by unfluted Greek Doric columns. The porch has a plain entablature, and there are windows with round-arched heads on either side. Above the entrance, there is a large 12-pane sash window, flanked by a smaller 8-pane sash window on the right and a similar long window on the left. The outer bays of the house project slightly and contain 12-pane sashes on both the ground and first floors.

A plinth runs along the base of the building, and there is a storey band featuring large stucco roundels in the outer bays, with a laurel wreath on the left and three roses on the right. The eaves cornice is moulded. To the left, there is a stuccoed two-storey service wing. On the right, a single-storey brick quadrant corridor and billiard room were added around 1880, which includes a loggia at the rear.

The garden front showcases a tripartite window and a two-storey segmental bow on the right, featuring 15-pane sashes on the ground floor and 12-pane sashes on the first. Inside, the hall has an open-well staircase with slender turned balusters.
