Description
No. 5 Wareing Lane is a house built in the mid to late 17th century, with alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. The building is constructed from coursed limestone rubble with ironstone dressings and features a pantile roof. There are brick and stone stacks at either end. The house has a two-unit central-staircase plan, is two storeys tall with an attic, and has a three-window range.
The central entrance has a 20th-century plank door set within a chamfered stone surround that has a Tudor-arched head. Above the door is a two-light overlight, also with a chamfered stone surround and a mullion, topped with a hood mould. The ground and first floors feature three-light chamfered stone mullion windows, each with hood moulds. The stonework around the door and windows is decayed and has been painted. To the left, there is a cellar window, and the building has ironstone quoins and ironstone-coped gables with kneelers.
Inside, there is a dog-leg staircase leading from the ground floor to the attic, featuring turned balusters and circular finials on the newel posts. The spine beams are concealed by false ceilings, and there is a stone cellar.
