Description

No. 31 Stoke Road is a cottage dating from the mid to late 17th century, with alterations made in the 20th century. It is constructed of coursed ironstone rubble and features a thatched roof with a brick stack at one end. The cottage has a three-unit plan and is two stories high with a two-window range.

The front includes a blocked door with a wooden lintel, a two-light leaded casement window on the ground floor to the far right with a wooden lintel, and a similar window along with a small fire window to the left of center, all featuring wooden lintels. To the far left on the ground floor, there is a three-light ovolo-moulded stone mullion window with a hood mould, which has been re-used from a demolished late 19th-century wing of Stoke Park. The first floor has two-light casement windows with wooden lintels set in eyebrow dormers. The building has quoins and a rendered plinth.

The gable end on the left has a pair of ventilation slits on the ground floor and a blocked window above, both with wooden lintels. The current entrance is located at the rear. Inside, the cottage features stop-chamfered beams with ogee stops, an open fireplace with a chamfered bressumer, and a collar truss roof. The gable is capped with stone coping and kneelers made from re-used stonework from Stoke Park.
