Description
Lodge Cottage is likely from the early 19th century and was probably designed by John Raffield. It is constructed of coursed squared limestone, with ironstone slate roofs and brick ridge stacks. The cottage is one or two stories high, with a three-window front. The central, two-storey pavilion features a pediment and contains a six-panel part-glazed door with a fanlight, set within a round-arched surround, flanked by narrow eight-pane sash windows arranged to resemble a Venetian window. Stone impost courses extend over the windows as stone lintels, all set within a round-arched recess. A round-arched sash window is located above the door, and to the flanking single-storey wings. The head of the first-floor window projects into the pediment gable, with a stone surround; the wings also have stone surrounds with keyblocks. Stone-coped walls terminate in plain piers, concealing lean-to roofs to the wings at either end.
