Description

The Garden House at Easton Neston is a garden building dated 1641, constructed from limestone ashlar with a slate roof. It features three bays, with a central door that has an eared moulded stone surround and a segmental pediment. This door is flanked by windows that also have similar eared surrounds. The building has chamfered quoins and Tuscan capitals without pilasters at either end and above the central bay. There is a moulded entablature and a central pedimented attic that displays a coat of arms, flanked by quarter-circle curved walls. The attic is framed by pilasters adorned with fanciful strapwork ornament, and there are finials on the gable of the pediment and at both ends of the flanking walls.

The side elevations each have two windows with eared stone surrounds, and there are lead rainwater pipe heads dated 1641 along with moulded stone cornices. The rear has a bracketed stone cornice, a moulded stone doorcase, and ball finials at the angles. Inside, there are circular niches with plasterwork wreath surrounds above the doors and on the side walls at the same level. The interior also contains the tomb of a pug, dated 1754, which features an inscribed marble slab raised on marble supports, carved with a collar on a shield and a coronet above, along with prancing horse supporters. The park and gardens surrounding the building are included in the Historic Buildings and Monuments Commission for England Register of Parks and Gardens at Grade II.
