Description
The stable block at Easton Neston House, now used as workshops, was likely built in the early 19th century by John Raffield for the 3rd Earl of Pomfret. The structure features rendered stone or brick with hipped roofs covered in graded slate. It is composed of one and two storeys and has a total of nine bays arranged around a courtyard plan.
At the center, there is a two-storey pavilion with a single window and a round-headed carriage arch that includes a key block and a rusticated stone surround with imposts. Above the arch is a blank lunette with a similar key block and a pediment. The pavilion is accentuated by chamfered quoins and moulded stone eaves. On either side of the pavilion are single-storey ranges that contain four blank windows with round-arched heads and key blocks, as well as an impost band and chamfered quoins.
The side ranges feature similar pavilions that enclose the courtyard, each with a large round-arched door on the ground floor, a lunette on the first floor, and a pediment above. The single-storey ranges have round-arched doors and sash windows. The range facing the entrance includes a central two-storey coach-house with five windows, round-arched doors, and bulls-eye windows in the loft above, all framed with stone surrounds. The doors feature imposts and key blocks, and the structure has a stone plinth topped with a central weather-vane. The three-bay flanking ranges have segmental-arched doors with imposts and key blocks.
Inside, the entrance carriageway showcases neo-classical plasterwork on the ceiling, and there are circular niches with hay racks in the stables. The building has been converted into engineering workshops.
