Description
Stuart House is a house dating from the late 17th century, with a partially legible datestone. It is constructed of regular coursed limestone and ironstone, with 19th-century pantile roofs. Originally planned as a three-unit building, it now presents a four-window facade to the street. The windows are 19th-century casements, set beneath wooden lintels. The central bay projects forward with a gable above, and contains a two-light leaded casement window beneath a wooden lintel. A lean-to stone porch with a 20th-century door is located on the left side, and a 20th-century porch on the right. The house has ashlar gable parapets and kneeler details, along with brick and stone stacks at each end. A datestone is set into the projecting gable. The rear elevation is similar, with a three-window range, some 20th-century window openings, and one roof dormer. The interior has not been inspected, but may contain remains of open fireplaces.
