Description
No. 55 High Street, which includes No. 1 Doctors Lane, is a pair of houses dating from 1686 and 1697, with a remodel in the mid-19th century. The buildings are constructed of regularly coursed limestone and feature 19th-century pantile roofs. Originally, they had one and two-unit plans and are single storey with an attic. The front facade presents a three-window range of 19th-century casements set under wooden lintels at the ground floor, along with two eaves dormers at the first floor. The cross-wing to the right showcases 19th-century half-timbering with rendered panels. There are brick and stone stacks at the ridge. The gable on the left has a 19th-century door and porch with a datestone above. The right elevation also features 19th-century half-timbering and a 19th-century door with a datestone in the rear gable. The interiors have not been inspected. This listing is included for its group value.
