Description

Dale Cottage, now comprising three dwellings, was originally built in the late 17th century and altered in the 19th century. It is constructed of regular coursed limestone with a 19th-century pantile roof. Originally a two-unit plan, the house now presents a three-window range of 20th-century leaded casement windows. It features ashlar gable parapets and kneelers, along with a large central stone stack with diagonal brick flues. A 20th-century stack is located at the end. Number 1 is a 19th-century single-unit, single-storey extension to the left, matching the style of the main house, with an attic and a 20th-century lean-to to the right. 20th-century entrances are present on the side and rear. An illegible datestone is visible in the right gable, reportedly dating to 1666. The interior of Number 9 retains ceiling beams and remains of an open fireplace. The building is included on the list for its group value.
