Description

Olivers Folly is a public house that has been converted into a house. It likely dates from the early to mid-18th century and was extended in the late 18th and 19th centuries. The building is constructed from squared coursed limestone and lias, topped with a thatch roof. Originally designed with a two-unit plan, it now has a T-shape layout and is a single storey with an attic.

The elevation facing Main Street features a gable end that abuts the road on the left side. To the right, there is a one-window range with a leaded casement window set under a wood lintel. In the gable end, there is a 20th-century casement window in the attic, also under a wood lintel. The right return wall of the cross-wing has a 19th-century style casement window under a wood lintel, as well as a part leaded casement window beneath an eyebrow dormer in the attic. There is a niche at the junction of the ranges with a wood lintel.

To the left of the gable, there is a similar one-window range featuring a 19th-century part-glazed door under a wood lintel. The gable end on the right has a 20th-century lean-to porch, with a casement window above it, also under a wood lintel. Brick stacks are present at the ridge and end of the building. The rear wing is similar in style, with a thatch roof and lower eaves level. The interior has not been inspected. This building was formerly known as The Horse and Jockey public house.
