Description

WOODNEWTON MAIN STREET TL0394 (South side) 19/214 No.37 (Franey House) GV II 2 houses, now one dwelling. Datestone John Franey/1745 and early C19. Squared coursed limestone and lies with Collyweston slate roofs. Originally one-and 2-unit plans. 2 bays to right are C18; single-storey, 2-window range of C19 sash windows, at ground floors, under wood lintels. 2 similar, smaller, sash windows, under hipped eaves dormers, to attic. Central 4-panel door is also under wood lintel. Ashlar gable parapets and kneelers and brick and stone stacks at ridge and end. Datestone above door. Early C19 bay, attached to left, was originally a one-unit dwelling. 2 storeys with a 2-window range of leaded casements at first floor, under eaves, and a C19 casement under stone lintel, with keyblock, to ground floor. Plank door to right, is under similar head. Brick stack at end. Interior not inspected. John Franey was a stonemason. (RCHM: An Inventory of Architectural Monuments in North Northamptonshire: p170)
