Description

Stoneleigh is a house with 18th-century origins, although the main facade was built in the 1840s. It is constructed of limestone ashlar to the front, while the rear wing and attached outbuildings are of brick and ironstone. The roofs are covered in Collyweston and Welsh slate. The house has an L-shaped plan. The main front has a three-window arrangement of sash windows with glazing bars, each with a stone lintel and keyblock above. A central six-panel door is topped by a rectangular fanlight, also with a stone lintel and keyblock. Ashlar gable parapets and ashlar stacks are positioned at the ends of the building. A rear wing and attached outbuildings date back to the 18th century; part of this complex is open to the elements. It is believed that these outbuildings were used for the manufacture of paper or parchment.
