Description
The Uplands consists of two houses located on Middleton Main Street, dating from the early and late 18th century, with a datestone indicating 1880. No. 20 is constructed of squared coursed ironstone with limestone ashlar dressings, while No. 18 features regular coursed limestone, both topped with slate roofs. Each house has a two-unit plan and stands two storeys tall, forming a five-window range of casements. No. 20 has ashlar lintels with keyblocks, connected by a string course, whereas No. 18 has wooden lintels. Both houses have 20th-century doors positioned between the windows, beneath similar lintels. The gables are adorned with ashlar parapets, and there are brick stacks at the ridge and ends. The datestone above the entrance to No. 18 likely refers to the raising of its roof, and the gable to the right shows evidence of an early 18th-century roofline. The interior has not been inspected.
