Description

The structure consists of walls, a gatepier, an attached banqueting house, and a balustrade, located approximately 80 meters east of Drayton House. This complex dates from the late 17th century and was commissioned by the second Earl of Peterborough, with some later alterations.

The walls are made of squared coursed limestone, and the gatepier is constructed from limestone ashlar. The banqueting house features squared coursed limestone with ashlar facades and a lead roof. It is a single-storey building with one window range. The tall fixed window has glazing bars and is framed by moulded stone architraves. The banqueting house also has rusticated quoins, a moulded cornice, and a plain ashlar parapet, with the roof not visible.

On the right elevation, there is a central doorway with moulded stone architraves, above which are the arms of the second Earl of Peterborough. Attached to the north of the banqueting house is a five-bay ashlar balustrade, which features three closed lead urns, likely crafted by Van Nost.

The banqueting house is part of a larger ensemble that includes walls, gatepiers, gates, and screens to the south and east of Drayton House, as well as a statue and cistern associated with the balustrade. The gardens surrounding these structures are included in the Historic England Register of Parks and Gardens at grade I.
