Description
Nos. 1 and 2 Bridge Street are two houses located in Apethorpe, dating from the mid-17th century to the 19th century. They are built from squared coursed limestone and feature thatch, as well as Collyweston and Welsh slate roofs. Originally, the buildings had one- and two-unit plans and are two storeys high.
The front has an irregular arrangement of two windows, with 19th-century casement windows on the ground floor and horizontal sliding sash windows on the first floor, all set beneath wooden lintels. The ground floor windows on the right have shutters, while the first-floor window on the left is located under a shallow eyebrow dormer. To the right of the center is a six-panel door, also under a wooden lintel. The left side has a thatch roof, while the right side features Collyweston and Welsh slate roofs. There are brick and stone stacks at the ridge and end of the buildings.
The three straight fronts suggest four possible building periods. The right gable has one leaded casement window and two horizontal sliding sash windows, along with remnants of pigeon holes. The rear of the buildings is similar in appearance. Although the interiors have not been inspected, it is likely that they contain remnants of an open fireplace.
