Description
The dovecote, now serving as a water tower, was built around 1740 for the Earl of Westmorland by Edward Frame, a mason from Woodnewton. It features squared coursed limestone and a Collyweston slate roof, with a circular plan. The structure includes a plank door set under a wooden lintel and a moulded ashlar cornice. Its domed roof is topped with a glazed lantern, which was previously used as a glover. The dovecote was converted into a water tower in the early 20th century. Although the interior was not inspected, it is noted that the nesting boxes were modified during the conversion. The dovecote is scheduled as an Ancient Monument.
