Description

Hardwater Mill and The Cottage is a watermill and house that have been converted into two dwellings. The buildings date from the mid 18th century and early 19th century. They are constructed of regularly coursed limestone, which is now painted, and feature roofs made of 19th-century pantiles and concrete tiles.

Originally, the structure had a two-unit plan with the mill attached to the left side. It stands two storeys high with an attic. The house was originally designed with a two-window range, featuring casements with glazing bars beneath wooden lintels. There are two dormers with Lincolnshire roofs and brick stacks at both ends. The left side, which was originally the mill, has a three-window range of casements with glazing bars under wood lintels. The ground floor now includes three openings for garage doors.

The left side has ashlar gable parapets and kneelers. To the right, there is an early 19th-century four-window range that is similar in style, with two 20th-century doors positioned between the windows. The eaves levels differ, with an ashlar gable parapet in between and brick stacks at the ridge. There is a dormer on the right side, and the right end features a hipped roof. A mill race runs underneath the mill buildings. The interior has not been inspected.
