Description
This house, occupied by H. Close and Son, dates from the 17th century with late 18th or early 19th-century alterations. It is built from squared coursed limestone and features a Collyweston slate roof. Originally likely designed as a two-unit plan, it now has an L-shape and consists of two storeys with an attic.
The front has a two-window range of 8-paned, unhorned sash windows with glazing bars on the first floor, which are framed by rendered surrounds with keyblocks. On the ground floor, there are two canted bay windows with similar sash windows. The central entrance features a six-panel door beneath a wooden lintel, topped with a flat wooden hood. The building has ashlar gable parapets and ashlar stacks at both ends. At the rear, there is a two-unit range from the 17th century, along with a 20th-century extension. Although the interior has not been inspected, it is reported to have an open fireplace.
