Description
The retaining wall, steps, and urns extend approximately 80 meters from the south to the east front of Drayton House. This structure likely dates from the late 16th century, commissioned by the third Lord Mordaunt, with early 18th century urns probably created by J. Van Nost. The wall is made of squared coursed limestone and features small lead urns mounted on an ashlar parapet. At the west end, there is a flight of semi-circular steps flanked by square piers topped with closed lead urns. This feature was originally likely the southern boundary of the main parterre on the east side of Drayton House. The gardens are included in the Historic England Register of Parks and Gardens at grade I.
