Description
This pair of chest tombs, dating from the late 18th century, is located approximately 10 meters north of the chancel of the Church of All Saints. They are made of limestone ashlar. The tomb to the north is square with panelled sides and a sloping top. The back of the slope features inscriptions for William Law, who died in 1761, Hester Gibbon, who died in 1790, and Sarah Law, who died in 1781. The front panel also includes a long inscription. The tomb to the south has plain sides and a sloping top, with an inscription on the south side dedicated to Elizabeth Hutcheson, who died in 1781. All individuals commemorated here lived for a time at Hall Farmhouse. William Law and Elizabeth Hutcheson were known for their charitable contributions in Kings Cliffe; William Law, an 18th-century divine, published "A Serious Call to a Devout and Holy Life" in 1725. The tomb for William Law is said to resemble a writing desk.
