Description
The coach house, located approximately 25 meters northwest of Ecton Hall, dates back to 1777, as indicated by its datestone, and has been altered in the 19th century. It is constructed of lias ashlar with a slate roof and was originally likely designed to serve as two coach houses and stabling. The building is single storey with an attic and features a main front that has a four-window range of sashes with glazing bars, all set under gauged stone arches.
At the center, there is a semi-circular carriage arch with plain surrounds and keyblocks. On either side of the covered way under the arch, there are two doors, one of which is a six-panelled door. The segmental arch openings at the far left and right display initials and the date in their keyblocks and capitals, along with 20th-century double doors. The roof is adorned with six flat-topped dormers, and the ends feature ashlar parapets and brick stacks.
At the rear, there is a small opening with a semi-circular arch head and a plank door, with a wood lintel above that shows evidence of a blocked carriage arch. The interiors have not been inspected. This building is included for its group value with Ecton Hall.
