Description
The Three Horseshoes Public House is a mid-18th century building located on Ecton High Street. It is constructed of squared coursed lias and brick, with parts now painted, and features a combination of plain tile and slate roofs. The original design was a two-unit plan, and the building stands two storeys high with an attic.
The front has a two-window range of casements with glazing bars set under wooden lintels. A central six-panel door with glazed top lights is topped by a 20th-century hood. Above, there is a central wooden eaves dormer that contains a casement with glazing bars. The building is adorned with ashlar gable parapets and has brick stacks at both ends. The left gable features a two-light part-leaded attic casement under a wooden lintel.
Attached to the right is a 19th-century brick extension with a three-window range. The interior has not been inspected. Notably, there is a former blacksmith's shop at the rear, which is said to have been owned by the family of Benjamin Franklin.
