Description
This is a house located at 18 Upper Benefield, dating from the early to mid 17th century, with some alterations made in the 18th century. The building is constructed of squared coursed limestone and features a roof made of stone slate and 20th-century artificial slate. It originally had a two-unit lobby-entry plan and is two storeys high. The front has a two-window range of renewed leaded casements set under wooden lintels. On the ground floor to the right, there is a 17th-century three-light stone mullion window. The central entrance features a plank door with strap hinges, which is sheltered by a 20th-century gabled porch. A central ashlar stack with moulded cornices is present. At the rear, there is a 20th-century extension that is at right angles to the main building and has an artificial slate roof. Inside, the house contains two open fireplaces with bressuaers, ceiling beams, and two winder stairs.
