Description

This is a late 18th-century house, now used as a house and shop, located in Upper Benefield. It was originally recorded as No. 11 on Ordnance Survey maps. The building is constructed of squared coursed limestone with a Collyweston slate roof and has an L-shape plan. The main front has two windows on each floor. The upper floor has 19th-century casement windows, while the ground floor has 20th-century casements, all set beneath wooden lintels. A central, part-glazed door is also under a wooden lintel. A cross wing projects to the right and features a 20th-century window and door on its return wall; the lintel at the intersection of the cross wing and main range suggests a distinct build phase. Brick stacks are situated on the ridge and at the end of the building. A small 20th-century shop window is set into the gable end facing the road. The rear elevation is similar, with the gable end of the cross wing on the left. Inside the shop, there are ceiling beams, and part of the building was historically used as a bakehouse.
