Description
Sundial Cottage and The Wheatsheaf are two houses located on Park Street in Kings Cliffe, dating from the late 18th century. They are built of squared coursed limestone and topped with a Collyweston slate roof. Originally, each house had a two-unit plan with a rear wing. The buildings are two storeys high with attics and together form a six-window range featuring 19th-century casement windows under gauged stone heads. The centre window of No. 56 is blind, while No. 56 has a six-panel door beneath a gauged stone head, and No. 54 has a 20th-century door and lintel. There are two pairs of hipped roof dormers with casement windows, and ashlar gable parapets at both ends and between the two houses. The remains of ashlar stacks are present at the ridge and ends, with one stack featuring a sundial. There is a 18th-century wing at the rear, along with 19th-century extensions. The interior of No. 56 retains remnants of an open fireplace, and this house was used as the Wheatsheaf Public House, which led to alterations in the interior.
