Description

Wellington House Farmhouse is a late 17th-century farmhouse, with alterations from the 18th and 19th centuries. It is built of squared coursed limestone with a Collyweston slate roof. Originally planned as a three-room layout, it was extended with a stair turret and a parallel range to the rear. The farmhouse is two storeys with attics, and has a three-window front. The first floor has stone mullion windows with ovolo-mouldings, each with three lights. The ground floor has similar mullion windows, each with four lights and King mullions. A six-panel door, located to the right of the centre, has a moulded stone surround, a pulvinated frieze, and a cornice above. A central, hipped, eaves dormer has a leaded casement. Ashlar gable parapets, and remains of ashlar ridge and end stacks are present; the ridge stack includes a sundial. A 19th-century rear range projects to the right and has a 20th-century casement window with a moulded stone surround on the ground floor. There is thickening to the base of the left gable. The rear elevation includes a parallel range to the left and a gabled projection to the right of centre. A lean-to to the far right features an oval window with a stone surround. Inside, the room on the right has a winder stair by the chimney and the remains of an open fireplace that is now blocked. The room on the left has a 17th-century fireplace with a moulded stone surround. An early 18th-century staircase, around an open well, features heavy turned balusters. The attic has a plaster floor. The original roof structure dates to the 17th century. A 19th-century wing to the rear right was formerly used as a schoolroom.
