Description

Shotley Cottage is a house dating from 1829, built by John Sculthorpe, as indicated by a datestone. It is constructed of squared coursed limestone with a Welsh slate roof, and has an L-shaped plan. The house is two storeys high and has a three-window front. The windows are unhorned sash windows with glazing bars, each set beneath a gauged stone head. A central door, flanked by stone heads, provides access. Ashlar gable parapets and brick stacks are located at the ends of the building. A datestone sits above the front door. The rear elevation incorporates a staircase projection in the angle between the two wings. Some alterations were made to the rear in the 20th century. The interior, although not inspected for this record, is noted to retain early 19th century fittings.
