Description

Appletree Cottage is a house dating from around 1600, which has been altered and extended at the rear in the early 19th century. The front features a timber-framed upper storey with brick infill and a curved brace in the left bay. The ground floor, the right gable, and the rear of the left bay have been rebuilt in brick with a flint plinth, while the left gable is partially tile-hung. The roof is covered with old tiles and has a central brick chimney with a rebuilt shaft, along with a later brick chimney that serves a 20th-century boiler house located at the front right corner. The house is two storeys high and has two bays. The upper storey and the right side of the ground floor have paired leaded casements, with the latter being from the 20th century. The left side of the ground floor features a three-light casement with leaded lights flanking a barred wooden light, and above it, there is a 20th-century three-light leaded casement over a 20th-century door. At the rear, there is a 19th-century two-storey brick extension with a first-floor band course, angled to the main structure, along with an additional block raised in the 20th century at the far end. Inside, the left gable wall, the central cross wall, and the rear wall of the right bay display timber framing. The left bay contains a chamfered spine beam, wide joists, and a curved wind-brace.
