Description
Hawbushes Farmhouse is a house that dates from the 17th century and was extended in the 18th century, with some alterations. The eastern front is constructed of flint with brick dressings, while the western front has been rebuilt, rendered, and colourwashed. The house features old tile roofs and brick chimneys and is two storeys high. The eastern front has three gabled bays, with 20th-century two and three-light leaded casements. The right bay and the ground floor left bay have brick Tudor hoodmoulds. There is a 20th-century door between the right bays, also with a similar hoodmould. A lower range that projects to the right was formerly used as farm buildings and is not of special interest. The rear of the house has a narrow first-floor band-course. Inside, the rear range contains timber framing in the cross walls, and one bay features a stop-chamfered spine beam and joists. There is a large fireplace made of narrow 17th-century bricks and a corner fireplace in the 18th-century left bay, along with timber framing in the cross wall between the 18th-century right bays.
