Description
Copes Farmhouse, likely dating from the 16th century or earlier, appears to be surviving portions of a larger building. It is a timber-framed structure with a largely 18th-century brick front. The roof is covered in old tiles. The farmhouse has two storeys and originally two bays. A central door is flanked by windows with bars. There is one sash window to the first floor. A 19th-century wing is attached to the rear of the right-hand bay, constructed from brick and flint with a brick upper section and cogged eaves. The gables of the main farmhouse are tiled or roughcast. A very substantial stack, possibly dating from the 16th or earlier, is situated on the right-hand gable, featuring stone quoins and flint, with upper parts of old, thin bricks having tumbled-in weathering and two diagonal flues. Inside, there are heavy joists and beams. The farmhouse is reported to have a connection with Little Kingshill Priory.
