Description
Laurel Farmhouse is a house that dates back to the late 16th century, with a rear wing that has been extensively rebuilt in the mid 19th century. The front of the house features mid 19th century extensions and part of it was rebuilt around 1980. The building is constructed from flint with brick dressings and has old tile roofs. The rear wing includes one exposed timber post at the northwest corner and a first-floor band course on the north gable. The house is two storeys high. The 19th century extension has two gabled bays at the front, which contain 4-pane sash windows and a central half-glazed door set within a 20th century gabled brick porch. The left bay features a pair of square brick chimney shafts. Inside the rear wing, there is a late 16th century plaster overmantel that displays three heraldic figures, with the central figure being a wyvern set in a simple roundel, flanked by plaster pendants featuring inverted fleur-de-lys. The fireplace has been altered, with the stack removed below the ridge line, and there is a heavy spine beam and joists present.
