Description

The war memorial at Wheeler End, erected in 1922, consists of a wooden cross with a tapering shaft set atop a tall, slender column. It is enclosed by a wooden picket fence, both of which are painted white. The names of those who died, including ten from World War I and three from World War II, are hand painted on the memorial.

This memorial was donated by Mr. Benjamin Plumridge of The Bungalow in April 1922 and was officially unveiled on Easter Tuesday of the same year, as reported in the South Bucks Free Press on April 21, 1922. The site was chosen because it is located next to the open common where the fallen had played.

The war memorial is designated at Grade II as it serves as a poignant reminder of the impact of world events on this small village and reflects the sacrifices made by the local community during both world wars.
