Description

The Church Hall School House is a building that dates back to 1863, designed by George Devey for Edward Bonus. Originally a school with a master's house, it was later extended in 1877. The structure features a diaper pattern brick design with some limestone quoining, and the upper part of the house is roughcast above the first-floor window cills. It has tiled roofs with gables that have dentil verges.

The house, located on the right, is two storeys tall and has a projecting gable on the left-hand side. Each floor has a three-light leaded casement window, with the lower window featuring a blue brick relieving arch. In the centre, there is a projecting gabled porch with lattice panels on the sides and a door that has heavy ornamental iron hinges. To the right, there is another three-light leaded casement window, above which is a plaque inscribed in Latin that indicates the 1877 date. The left-hand flank wall has a large chimney stack with offsets and four diagonal shafts.

Above the semicircular-headed entrance to the hall on the left side, there is a small gabled dormer. The hall itself is one storey with a gable in the centre, featuring a three-light stone traceried and transomed window. There is a chimney stack to the left with offsets and a single diagonal shaft. Each gable of the hall has a four-light stone traceried window, and the rear elevation has a central gable with a similar three-light window, along with two two-light stone mullioned windows to the left. All windows are fitted with diamond leaded glazing. The interior of the hall boasts an open timbered roof supported by arched principals on carved stone corbels.
