Description
The Buckland War Memorial was built in 1920 by Messrs Newman and Harper and is made of Bath Stone. It is located within the grounds of All Saints Church, which is listed at Grade II*. The memorial features a Latin cross on a plinth, which is set on a three-stepped base.
On the west face of the plinth, there is an inscription that reads: "THIS CROSS WAS ERECTED BY/ THE INHABITANTS OF BUCKLAND/ TO/ THE GLORY OF GOD/ AND/ IN PROUD AND GRATEFUL MEMORY/ OF THOSE WHO WERE KILLED IN/ THE GREAT WAR/ 1914-1919." The top step of the base is inscribed with the words: "THEIR NAME LIVETH FOREVER MORE."
The names of the fallen are inscribed on the north and south faces of the plinth, while the east face includes the inscription: "ALSO IN MEMORY OF THE FOLLOWING/ WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES IN THE WAR/ 1939-1945/ (NAMES)/ R.I.P."
