Description

The Chearsley War Memorial is a war memorial built in 1920, designed by Messrs A and F Manulle. It is made of rough-hewn granite and is situated on a grassy knoll, shaded by an oak tree, directly opposite the village green. The memorial features a simple rectangular plinth that is set into the grass. Above this plinth, a battered section rises, supporting a sturdy pylon topped with a perforated Celtic wheel cross. The front of the memorial has an inscription in metal letters on a polished stone face that reads: "TO THE GLORIOUS MEMORY OF THOSE IN THIS PARISH WHO FELL IN THE GREAT WAR 1914-1919." The names of those commemorated are displayed on the side faces in metal lettering on polished stone, including two additions from the Second World War.
