Description
Vine Tree House is a former farmhouse and hotel dating from the 16th or 17th century. It is timber framed and was refronted in brick in the 18th century. The building features a half-hipped old tiled roof with a central chimney and a panelled parapet. It has two storeys and an attic, with stone floor bands that have been cut back and quoins that have been replaced in brick.
The front of the building has six bays, with two blank windows on the first floor and one on the ground floor. There are flat gauged brick arches with stone keyblocks above the windows. The first floor has four sashes in flush frames, and the ground floor also has four sashes, with two tripartite windows flanking a wide six-panel door located in the second bay from the right. This door is set in a wooden doorcase that features a panelled frieze, bold cut brackets, and a flat moulded hood, and is approached by four stone steps. A central lead rainwater pipe with a shaped head is also present. The flank elevation reveals exposed timber framing with brick infill and a three-light attic casement.
