Description
The Red Lion Hotel is a hotel dated 1669, though it may have origins that are even earlier. It has undergone significant restoration and modernization. The building features a timber frame with brick and painted plaster infill, with the right-hand part being brick and painted up to the first floor. The roof is tiled, and there are two large chimneys with heavily corbelled heads.
The left-hand part of the hotel has two storeys and an attic, with three oversailing gables, each containing a 2-light window. Below these gables are two-storey canted bay windows, with the central bay forming an oriel above the entrance door. The windows throughout the building have modern leaded glazing. A central yard entry has a 4-light casement window above it.
The right-hand section consists of three bays that were constructed in the 20th century, featuring two storeys with a shop front and door on the ground floor, and three 3-light transomed upper casements. The interior retains some old timbering, and there are long rear wings in the yard.
