Description
No. 3 High Street is a shop with a carriageway, forming part of a block with No. 5. It dates from the 16th century and has been refronted in the 18th century with chequered brick. The building features an old tile roof, with the section over the carriage arch slightly higher. There is a brick chimney on the left-hand ridge that drops to a lower level on the right-hand side, and a dentil brick cornice runs along the top.
On the first floor, there are two sash windows, each four panes wide, set in architrave frames. These flank a central recessed panel made of vitreous bricks. The early 19th-century shop window below has a glazed door to the left of centre, accompanied by a three-pane window to the left and a five-pane window to the right, both featuring a central horizontal glazing bar, all beneath a small cornice.
To the right, an arched entry projects slightly, leading to the carriageway, which has a gauged brick segmental arch. There is a sash window on the left with a flat gauged brick arch and a flat brick hoodmould above a small loft opening situated over the carriageway. The rear of the building displays exposed timber framing.
