Description

Quaker Farmhouse is a house dating from the late 16th to 17th century that has been altered. The left bays feature a restored timber frame with brick infill and a rubble stone plinth, while the right bays are re-cased in red brick. The gables and the rear have rubble stone at the ground floor and timber framing above, with the rear displaying a first floor that jetties on beam ends. The building has an old tile roof and brick chimneys at the gables and center. It is two storeys high with a cellar and consists of four bays. The front has irregular 20th-century leaded casements, with the right bay featuring one oriel window at the ground floor and two above. There is a central 20th-century door within a gabled timber porch, and steps lead down to the cellar below the left bay. An L-shaped extension to the right includes an outbuilding dated 1786, constructed of brick with some timber framing and rubble stone. The rear, facing Market Hill, has three-light wooden casements at the ground floor and irregular leaded casements at the first floor, with the one in the second bay being older.

Inside, the ground floor room to the left of the central chimney has moulded cross beams, a moulded wooden cornice, and heavy chamfered joists. This room also features a fireplace with moulded stone jambs and a moulded wooden lintel shaped like a very shallow four-centred arch with carved spandrels. The fireplace in the room above also has moulded stone jambs and a wooden lintel. The bays to the right have heavy plain cross beams and joists. The staircase includes shaped splat balusters leading to the upper landing.
