Description

House. Originally medieval, with significant alterations in the 17th century and further changes in the 18th century. It was initially a cruck-framed building, but is now largely timber-framed with colourwashed rubblestone cladding. The roof is covered with plain tiles. The house is arranged in a letter-L shape, comprising a 4-bay main range and a 3-bay west wing. It has one and a half storeys. The south elevation features an off-centre entrance within a lean-to projection. There are colourwashed rubble and brick dressings, three 3-light casement windows, French doors between the left-hand windows, and five 2-light casement dormers. The left-hand part of the roof is hipped. A lower, single-storey wing extends to the right. The north elevation has a mix of 3-light and 2-light casement windows, with the right-hand part rendered in colourwashed brick. Three 2-light dormers are present. The west wing exhibits exposed timber framing with colourwashed brick infill on its east side, featuring casement windows and two dormers. The north elevation of the west wing has a rubblestone stack with a brick flue. The west elevation is timber-framed with colourwashed plaster infill, with the south bay constructed of stone. It has 3-light and 2-light casement windows, and three dormers. The south range includes a central stack. Inside, a cruck truss remains in the south range to the left of the stack, along with chamfered and stopped spine beams. The roof was partly reconstructed after a fire around 1981.
