Description
The Old Church of St John the Baptist is a former parish church dating from the 13th century, with an 18th-century south porch. It is constructed of flint rubble and roughcast, featuring clunch dressings, and has a brick south porch. The church has brick buttresses at the south-east angle that are either raking or stepped, and flint buttresses with stone dressings at the north-east angle. The roofs are covered with old tiles.
The church includes lancet windows, with some medieval stained glass found in the early 14th-century east window, which has three lights. The west doorway is a 15th-century four-centred design. Inside, the nave and chancel are undivided, and there is a crown post roof with added curved queen struts. The east, north, and south walls feature raised and fielded panelling below the dado. There is an early 14th-century piscina and sedilia, as well as a medieval south nave door leading into the porch. The interior also contains 18th-century wall tablets.
