Description

Moriah Cottage, along with an attached outbuilding, is a cottage that was formerly a coachman's house, built in the early 19th century in a Tudor style and altered in the 20th century. The exterior features whitewashed, roughcast render over red brick with a slate roof. It has a two-unit plan and is two stories high with a two-window range. The gabled front has a central 20th-century door that is approached by one stone step. The door has a depressed arched head and a raised, rendered surround with incised masonry patterns and a hoodmould. There are two-light casement windows on both the ground and first floors, each with similar surrounds, and the ground floor windows have hoodmoulds. The cottage has a rendered, chamfered plinth with basement windows on either side of the door, featuring cambered arched heads. The gable has a bargeboard.

To the rear right is a two-storey outbuilding wing, constructed of coursed limestone rubble on the ground floor and red brick in Flemish bond on the first floor, also with a slate roof and a brick end stack. The outbuilding includes a double coach-house door next to the front range, which has a brick cambered arched head, along with three plank doors with wood lintels and two-light casement windows with wood lintels on the ground floor. There is a loft door and a four-light, leaded casement window on the first floor. Moriah Cottage was previously the coachman's house for Sandon House, to which the building originally belonged.
