Description

Sandon House is a house built in the early 19th century, with some alterations made in the 20th century. The building features red brick in Flemish bond on the ground floor, which is made of coursed, squared limestone, and has a slate roof with brick end stacks. It has a two-unit plan and is four storeys high with a three-window range.

On the ground floor, there is a three-light leaded casement window on the left and a three-light casement window on the right, both with wooden lintels. A flight of 11 stone steps, adorned with iron balustrades and standards that have vase finials, leads to the central front door located at the first-floor level. The door is a six-panel design with a fanlight featuring intersecting glazing bars, panelled reveals, and a round-arched head.

To the left on the first floor, there is a curved, hanging bay window, which is rendered below with incised masonry patterns. On the right, there is a 12-pane sash window with a painted, rendered head. Similar sash windows are found on the second floor, while the third floor features 9-pane sashes. The ground floor serves as a plinth, and the upper floors have large blank arches on either side of the central bay, which have segmental-arched heads with key blocks. There is a blank window in the centre of the first floor and another blank window on the third floor above, which has a round-arched head with a key block.

To the right, there are narrow, one-bay, two-storey extensions with lean-to slate roofs. The garden elevation has three storeys with round-arched heads on the ground and first-floor windows, with the centre window on the first floor being blank. The second floor features a central two-light casement window flanked by three-light casements, all with wooden lintels.

Inside, the ground floor contains a kitchen that is below ground level on the garden side and includes a cellar.
