Description

Longfields is a house dated 1747, with alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. It features a chequer brick moulded plinth and eaves, an old tile roof, and brick coped gables with flanking brick chimneys. The building is two storeys high with an attic and consists of three bays. The ground floor has three-pane sash windows, with those on the outer bays having cambered heads. The outer bays also include gabled dormers fitted with 19th-century paired wooden casements. A central six-panelled door, which has been re-sited, is set within a 20th-century doorcase that includes panelled reveals, fluted Doric pilasters, and a pediment. There are two former doorways that have been blocked. At the rear, there is a 20th-century wing that is one storey and attic, forming an L-shape. The interior has been altered but still retains one timber-framed partition wall, a larder in the left bay, and part of a winder staircase leading to the attic. The left bay also has 15th to 16th-century joists that were inserted in the 20th century.
